Twisted Pine Brewing Company

Sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name…and they're always glad you came[1].

You likely recognize those lines from the theme song to the popular ‘80s sitcom, Cheers. The song describes a place that serves as both an escape from daily life and yet one that is familiar and where you are always welcome. Twisted Pine Brewery is the Cheers of Boulder, CO.

When I first moved to town I remember driving East on Walnut Street and seeing what looked to be a sketchy bar in an industrial complex on the North side of the street. This assumption continued for the next two years until my good friend, Brett, invited me to join him for a beer. I saddled up next to him at the bar and commented on the Twisted Pine hat he was wearing . Wow, I thought, he must really love this place. But then Brett let me in on a little secret. Every time you come in wearing a piece of Twisted Pine gear you buy 1 beer and get the next one for free (I’m now the proud owner of both a shirt and a hat)!

On my next visit I met Jody, the business manger & occasional bartender. She is one of the greatest assets to Twisted Pine with her sly sense of humor, warm smile, and persuasive manor. She even managed to talk me into participating in Brewery Olympics (events included a keg toss, frozen t-shirt contest, & beer trivia). As the former manager of the local Ben & Jerry’s Scoop Shop, Jody also clued me in to the delights of beer floats – made with vanilla ice cream & Twisted’s own Creamstyle Stout. If you want to give these a try on site – just bring in the ice cream – they’ll gladly store it for you in their freezer.

It’s now been 3 years since my first visit and I can proudly say I’m a “regular” - even if it only means I stop by once every couple of weeks.  You know you’ve achieved this status when the bartenders know your name and favorite beer as soon as you walk in the door (for me it’s the Raspberry Wheat).

Like many brewery taprooms, Twisted Pine has seasonal beers, an outdoor patio, and occasional live music. They also have TVs and if you stop by during golf season, you’ll likely find the owner drinking a pint and cheering on his wife’s cousin, pro golfer Hunter Mahan. Although they don’t serve food, you’re welcome to bring your own or order in from one of the many menus they keep on hand.

Twisted Pine Brewery is located at 3201 Walnut Street in Boulder, CO. For more details visit http://twistedpinebrewing.com/twistedpine.html
